Book and Illustration Contest

Book & Illustration Contest

In 2009, I wrote the first draft of “The Day the Honey Bees Disappeared.” My purpose in writing this book was creating a way to engage young children in the plight of honey bees. It is vital to connect our children’s awareness about disappearing, dying honey bees to pesticides used regularly on our lawns, in our gardens, and on our food crops.

The book is now for sale as a PDF download. Publishing a book is an expensive and complicated affair, so our contest works like this. If you have a young, talented artist in your life, buy a copy of the book here on the site. The artist reads the book and creates illustrations as already outlined in the book.

Three finalists will be selected from entries received. Your artwork will be posted on this site, and readers will vote for the artwork they think best suits the book. As author of The Day the Honey Bees Disappeared, the winner is my choice but I will absolutely take readers opinions into consideration. Paper artwork sent to our physical address will become part of an art exhibit at Awbury Arboretum.

Our contest winner will have his or her  illustrations embedded in the book’s online version and will receive an honorarium of $100. This could be your first professional credit! When the time comes to publish a Kindle version of the book, your illustrations will be embedded in the Kindle version and you will receive a royalty on every copy of the eBook sold in a Kindle reader app version. And when (and if) a hard cover version of the book is published, your artwork will be included among the top five options for illustrations for a print edition.
